I'm a diehard Rays fan, went to the first game they ever played in 97 and for the first time ever, they are doing extremely well. Unlike every other year, one of their big stories is their unbeatable pitching staff. Everyone of those guys is going 6+ innings and giving up on average under 4 runs a game which gives us a shot to win any game. I believe they can make the playoffs and I think they will. Even though I am a Rays fan, winning the AL east may not be in our reach just yet. Realistically, we have a lot of the season to go and the Red Sox just simply have the experience and they play extremely well in September, we've never had important games in August or September. But for the record, I hate the Red Sox more than I hate any team in any sport, I hate them with a passion. I would like to hear some feedback from other sports fans on their take of the Rays this season and if they believe the Rays will make the playoffs and/or win the AL east.

Now, let me just say I am not a Patriots or Giants fan, but I was rooting for the Patriots to win this game most importantly because of the history. I don't know how many there are out there, but I am one that hates seeing Mercury Morris running his mouth like his 72 Dolphins were that good. Mercury Morris was asked and believes that his 72 Dolphins were a better team than the Patriots of this season , laughable in my opinion. Fact of the matter is , 30 years later, there is more out there, players are faster, stronger, quicker, BETTER. Yes, the Dolphins finished their season undefeated with a ring, well lets look into the numbers, 15-0 impressive, 10 of their 15 wins were against teams that had losing records, wow real impressive. In my opinion, the 72 Dolphins would not even be in my top 5 of the best teams of all time, and if they were to play the Pats, the Pats would win by a convincing margin. Any sports guru knows, the best team does not always win, its the team who comes out to play on that particular day and that was the Giants yesterday. I still believe not only are the Patriots of this season one of the best teams ever, but Tom Brady by the end of his career will be the best quarterback ever to play. I hate how Mercury can sit in his chair and believe he was part of a really great team because he truly was not, he was part of an undefeated team, the only one yes, thats what makes the 72 Dolphins special. But, in todays game, the fact that the Patriots got to that point, 18-0, the way the game has evolved, already makes them much better than the 72 Dolphins could ever dream to be. People want to talk crap that oh the Pats couldn't finish it, they aren't the best, guess what, thats the sport of football, the Giants were the hottest team and came out and played better on that given day, thats all it takes, one game. It can not be taken away that the Patriots still are the better team, one of the best to ever play, top 3 of all time in my opinion, regardless if they got the ring. The most successful sports teams in history still lose games, the Pats happened to be another victim when it mattered, that does not take away from the talent they have, the numbers they put up, record-setting on most parts, and the fact that they went 18-1. I truly felt bad because I wanted to see the Patriots join that list of immortals because they deserved it and were a better team than the 72 Dolphins hands down. Top 3 of all time and the 72 Dolphins would honestly not even go in my top 5. Sorry Mercury but the game changes and players are better than you saw in the 70's.

It depends on the kind of person you are honestly. I agree with you, I am close with my family but at the same time I am enjoying not living at home only because I have the freedom to do what I want without getting interrogated. But at the same time, I go home almost every weekend and now I have to start going home every weekend. I went home the day after the West Virginia game, it was wet and going off the interstate I flipped my car and totaled it. Well, now I have a new car but I have to pay 6000 for it and I can't find a job in Tampa so I have to drive back every weekend to work at the job I had before. But, even before I had to do that, I enjoyed coming home every weekend. Its nice to get away and a lot of my friends went to community college so honestly its funner. I grew up in a small town so the city life, going to Ybor to dance is just not my thing. I'd rather relax with my friends at a buddies house, drink some beer, sit around the campfire and chill. We had a pretty tight knit class and everyone likes coming home to hang out with everyone instead of hanging out with the kids you meet in college. I wouldn't like to live at home but I like going home on weekends.

Well, I am convinced. At first, I did not believe Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys posessed what it took to be a playoff possibly even a super bowl team. I just thought their first 5 games they played some easy teams and easily landed at 5-0, 6-0. I knew their first challenge was going to be the New England Patriots and thats where I was going to base their talent. As I had thought, they got killed at home. So, I believed like I had before, that they can beat bad teams, but once they run into a good team, they're done. As much as I don't like the Cowboys, and even more how much I hate that stupid smile Romo has during the entire football game, my outlook has changed. The Cowboys, (11-1), have proven themselves to be not only a playoff contender, but possibly the best team in the NFC. Tony Romo has turned out to have a great year and that offense is lethal with weapons like Terrell Owens, Whitton, and Marion Barber. They are second in the NFL in average points per game behind the unbeatable Pats. I wasn't convinced at first but now if my Bucs make it to the playoffs, thats the last team I want to play.

When I first got into ENC 1101, I thought I had pretty good writing skills, good grammar, and knew how to cite sources. Well, a week into the class I realized I wasn't as good as I thought I was when we got our first revision of our first essay. Now, we're on the last project and I feel much better about my writing skills, and how to describe emotions and ideas onto a paper correctly. Professor Namulondo was a great teacher and helped my writing skills tremendously. Her revisions on each essay gave me a better idea of what I had to do to make the paper and better piece of writing. She was good at giving constructive criticism and was very fair with the grades. As each project went by, the papers I wrote got better and her red marks on the essays became less common. She was understanding and told every individual their strong and weak points to work on. The worst bit of the course was definitely meeting at 8am. The best was writing essays about stuff we are interested in because that makes the essays more enjoyable.

Thats really cool because we have the same tradition. Course, it is only me and my sister but we also like to go out and hang out with friends and we barely are home at the same time. Even with that, we both have to be home to go and get our tree, then come home and decorate the tree with lights, ornaments, and the angel at the top. Also, we have a tradition of opening just one present on Christmas eve, sounds kind of cliche but me and my sister couldn't honestly wait any longer so we started that tradition years ago to atleast open one thing the night before. Everything about Christmas time is amazing and its my favorite holiday. I usually help my dad out with decorations and lights around the house, and just the thought of Christmas puts me in a happy mood.

Well, I must say I am one proud fan that is laughing in the faces of all the sports analysts who chose the Saints to breeze through the South division and that the Bucs were going to finish last. Nobody thought adding veteran quarterback, Jeff Garcia, was going to help the hopeless Bucs. Going into Week 12 of football, the Bucs sit atop the South division with a comfortable 2 game lead over the Saints and Panthers. The Buccaneers are playing good football, Earnest Graham is running the ball well, Joey Galloway is making the long plays happen with his 4.1 speed, Jeff Garcia is making the right decisions in the pocket, and best of all, the Bucs defense is showing the league glimpses of an unstoppable 2003 defense. The defense is putting pressure on the quarterback, forcing turnovers, and shutting down the running game, which are all keys to winning a ballgame. Its way too early to say the Bucs are a division winner or even a playoff team but as of now the Bucs are making a good enough statement to solidify their spot in the 2008 playoffs. The analysts may know what they are talking about but sometimes they just mess up and I never had doubt that the Buccaneers could turn their 4-12 season into a playoff season with the help of a veteran quarterback and limiting the mistakes on the field. Go Bucs!

I think to a certain extent music can influence their behavior and the way they think. Musicians are superstars and people look up to them, so certain stuff they talk about in their songs, could be done by people listening to their music. I think it depends on their age and their upbringing. For example, I've been listening to Eminem ( explicit cd's) since I was like 11. His music is about as explicit and gruesome as any music I've ever heard. But listening to his music did not make me want to kill my mother or abuse a woman or anything of that sort. I agree that some people may be influenced by music but it depends on their upbringing. If your parents raise you to know that abusing a woman is unacceptable, it doesn't matter that a favorite musician of yours like Eminem, can convince you that its not a bad thing to do. I listen to country music, and I listen to it purely for the entertainment. All country music songs tell a story and they are inspiring and interesting to me. I believe music is more for the entertainment than the influence of performing something said in the song.

Yeah I understand where you are coming from, I am in a situation almost completely flipped around. I have been with my girlfriend for 2 and a half years. Shes at community college at home and I go home every weekend to spend time with her also. But, I also have friends down there and I like hanging out with them too. She broke up with me because she said I didn't show her any affection and I payed more attention to my friends than to her. We've talked and we agree we need this break because things just aren't the way they used to be between us. Well, I hope shes not seeing someone down there because I'm not seeing and don't plan on seeing someone up here. As hard as it is, you need to let him go, you don't need to deal with that. If he wants to get back with you and loves you, he would not be hanging out with the girl that likes him and that he cheated on you with, its unacceptable. You're in college and you need to live now because it doesn't look like he wants this to continue. I know its hard because I couldn't imagine having to say bye for good from my girl, but I think thats what needs to be done. You can't look to far into the friends thing because every guy wants to chill with their friends, don't make him choose between you and them. But, the other girl, is unacceptable and I think this is where you need to draw the line and move forward.

I felt like talking about advertisements because we are also discussing the problems of it in Anthropology. Some people believe that advertisements these days degrade women and they don't think the kids of the next generation should be looking at what society views as "ideal". I think there are some women who honestly think the worlds out to get them. Men are also used in ads for certain items, just not as frequently as women. For example, in muscle fitness magazines, when they advertise muscle protein shakes or something of that sort, they use men who are absolutely jacked. Men with huge muscles holding the drinks, so you think if you drink that, you will get that big. All it is is this, sex sells. Many advertisers want to use good looking women to advertise their product because they know it will catch people's eyes. Some people don't like the fact that they use beautiful , skinny models for every ad. Well thats also part of what this world buys, no one wants to see a product being sold by someone that looks like them. You want to see someone that is appealing in the eyes of society because thats what sells. For example, on a video game cover, would you rather see Alex Rodriguez or a bench warmer? Obviously, you want to see the best player out there on the cover.

Our choices of our heroes and role models show us that our society values leadership and power. For example, one of the current role models in baseball is Alex Rodriguez. He is a 3rd baseman who just recently decided to opt out of his contract with the New York Yankees. He led the league this season with the most home runs, most RBI's (runs batted in), and helped the Yankees reach the playoffs. He is considered a role model because he is known as one of the league's best players. Another hero in our world is Roberto Clemente because he did an honorable deed along with being an outstanding ballplayer. Roberto Clemente was a Puerto Rican outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates with one of the greatest arms ever seen in baseball. On New Years Eve in 1971, he left his family to board a plane and fly to Nicaragua with supplies to help the people there who had just experienced a devastating hurricane. The plane crashed and Roberto Clemente died. He died helping others in need, and along with having a big heart, he was one of the best baseball players ever. He reached the 3,000 hit club that season before and had one of the strongest arms out in right field. He is known as a hero because he showed how great of a person he was by forfeiting his New Year's eve to help out people who needed supplies to live. This tells us that our society sees heroes and role models as people that we should strive to be, these honorable people are people who came onto Earth with great intentions and we should follow in their footsteps.

I agree with everything nelsonci is saying. Our chances for a BCS bowl are most likely shot and this year didn't finish with the hopes it had started with throughout the first 6 games of the year. But, the bulls have nothing to put their heads down for because no one could of predicted what they were able to accomplish this year and in the next few years this program will only get better with the new talent we have in Matt Grothe, George Selvie, Mike Ford, and Mike Jenkins. Along with these exceptional athletes, with the publicity USF has got during the season, it will attract much better prospects that will help this team get even better and hopefully become a national contender. Yes, this season didn't end up where everyone had hoped at the end of week 6 but we have accomplished a lot, we have great young players, a great coach in Jim Leavitt, and many new good prospects for years to come, helping this football program to have the reputation FSU, UF, and UM have.

Well, what can I say? We just lost our 3rd straight game dropping us to 6-3 overall, 1-3 in the Big East Conference. We successfully dropped from the #2 ranking and possibly playing for a national championship to not even standing a chance to win the Big East Conference, last place in our conference, and most likely out of the top 25 in just 3 weeks of play. This season has been crazier and more unpredictable than the Rays winning the World Series next year. USF has been no different than most of the top 25 ranked teams who have gone through ups and downs throughout the year. We started the season unranked and from that point, seeing us at 20th by the end of the year sounded like a great feat. But, seeing where we were just 3 weeks ago, atop of power houses like USC, LSU, and UF, this sure drop out of the top 25 seems like a disappointment. Now, we have to play for an invitation to a bowl game and most of all, pride. Regardless of the ups and downs this team has taken throughout this season, a strong finish will help us be remembered next year, not as the cinderella team who came out of nowhere, but as the 11 year program that is on the rise to one day be able to compete with the 3 powerhouses in the state of Florida, UF, FSU, and UM, and hopefully in the next years to come, a national contender.

I chose to do an advert in a Cosmopolitan magazine advertising the beverage SKYY vodka. The picture in the magazine is of a man sitting in a chair holding a glass of SKYY vodka and a good-looking woman pouring the drink and they are inside of what looks like a nice tall building overlooking a luminous city. This ad is trying to reach out to anyone who will be attracted to luxurious looking scenes and good looking women. This ad makes the product look appealing because the whole scene is shiny making it look luxurious and theres a pretty lady which will appeal to guys. It actually promises that if you drink SKYY vodka, you will get attention from a good looking lady and that you will appear classy. These promises are definitely not realistic because a certain brand of alcohol will not make you classier or make you appealing to good looking women. The rhetorical strategies used are the being high up in a tall building overlooking a fine city, the shiny scene, and the good looking woman. Yes, because we view "good-looking" women as being slender, and in other countries, alcohol is not as important to advertise so heavily.

Yes, I am affected to by the California wildfires. I have an uncle, aunt, 2 cousins and my grandfather in San Diego, California. My uncle, aunt, and 2 cousins did not have it as bad, they just got school off and they were just advised to be careful and keep notice. My grandfather was closer to the wildfires and he was told to evacuate his house. I hope your family is alright, mine is doing alright also thankfully. My grandfather isn't really sure how his house is doing right now, hopefully its still standing. I'm sorry to hear about your family, it seems like they were in more jeopardy than my family was. But, I agree with you about how serious the wildfires are, they have left many people without homes and have injured people. I hope everything goes well with your family.
