  • Sharing the Good News About Laserfiche with Your Colleagues

    document management software

With the support of the Eaton County Information Systems Office, the Eaton County Prosecutor’s Office has successfully transitioned from dependence on physical paper file folders. In fact, we are among the first prosecutor offices in the USA to go paperless with document management software.

Changing to electronic files isn’t a revolutionary idea; many private industries have already made the switch. But our change has been a revolutionary improvement in how we do the People’s business, and is a harbinger of the future for many other prosecutor offices.

I think it’s important to show my colleagues that there’s a better way to do business. So, on our Website, we include information on why we chose Laserfiche, how document management solutions work, the benefits and our tips and suggestions for success. We had such a positive response to that page that we created and posted videos about how we work, so other prosecutors’ offices can see the benefits of Laserfiche document images first hand.

One of the other things I do is talk about Laserfiche whenever I can. We host on-site visits from other prosecutors’ offices interested in seeing how “paperless” we really are. (Instead of six file cabinets, we now only need a single drawer – and it doesn’t even hold paper. We use it to hold evidence CDs.) The fact that with document management we haven’t lost a single file in over three years is earth-shattering to other prosecutors.

Laserfiche Helps Municipal Staff Work More Efficiently, Reduce Overhead Costs and Comply with Open Public Records Acts

May 30th, 2008 Comment on this article

Long Beach, CA – In the month of May alone, Laserfiche, a leading provider of digital document management and records management systems, has won the business of five new California cities: the City of Brawley, the City of Oroville, the City of Tehachapi, the City of Petaluma and the City of Westminster. Stephen Weinberg, Laserfiche’s regional sales manager for California, attributes this success to the fact that Laserfiche has obtained government certification year after year for each new version of its software, demonstrating its commitment to government customers. Laserfiche now works with over 200 cities in the state of California, and with thousands more cities across the U.S. and around the world.

“I believe that Laserfiche really stands out to city governments because we help them ensure compliance with freedom of information legislation and open public records laws by offering products like WebLink, Web Access and Audit Trail,” Weinberg said. “Laserfiche software is built on the Microsoft® platform and integrates easily with the software city governments use every day. We also have a team of in-house experts who work with their IT departments and staff on an ongoing basis.”

Weinberg added that most of his municipal customers want the stability of an established document management vendor they can trust. Laserfiche has been a successful private company for more than 20 years. According to Forrester Research, Inc., Laserfiche takes a “less is more” approach and focuses on ease of use, eliminating file cabinets and, most importantly, affordability. In uncertain economic times, solutions that streamline business processes across the enterprise are quite appealing because of the short- and long-term cost savings they provide. Paperless alternatives are also popular because they contribute to “green” initiatives that focus on saving paper and reducing energy consumption.

Laserfiche 8 Includes Latest Workflow Automation Technology

Long Beach, CA – May 15, 2008 – Laserfiche®, a leading provider of digital document and records management systems, announces the release of Laserfiche 8, its most flexible and scalable solution ever. The company’s goal for Laserfiche 8 is simple: to help organizations streamline business processes by speeding the flow of information across the enterprise.

“Laserfiche 8 gives us everything we need—particularly the new workflow tools—to expand our paperless initiative into additional departments,” said Denise Grossmann of Blue Earth County, MN, a Laserfiche client since 2002. “The interface is even easier to use, and the new features will really complement what we’re doing in Microsoft SharePoint.

Among other enhancements, Laserfiche 8 features a redesigned business automation module that’s built on the Windows Workflow Foundation engine. Greater interoperability with Office applications—particularly SharePoint—helps organizations unify content that’s currently stored in disparate systems and formats. And an enhanced system architecture simplifies firewall configuration and improves performance over wide-area networks.

“Laserfiche has always been a strong search and retrieval system, and Laserfiche 8 extends these strengths to business process automation,” said Laserfiche CEO Nien-Ling Wacker. “I firmly believe that Laserfiche 8 will help Microsoft-driven organizations shine.”

  • Laserfiche® Releases Numbers on Paper Reduction

    electronic document management

In honor of Earth Day, April 22, 2008, Laserfiche®, a Southern California-based software company, is proud to say that their electronic document management solutions have helped thousands of organizations dramatically reduce their paper consumption.

Conservatively, Laserfiche estimates that with each installation of its document management software, an organization saves an average of 500,000 pages of paper. With over 25,000 installations, including government agencies, corporations, healthcare providers and financial services firms, this adds up to some 1 trillion pages total. Some organizations save much more—for example, the Department of Immigration in Mexico has used Laserfiche to digitize more than 200 million documents.

Sources vary on the amount of wood and/or recycled products used to produce paper, but according to the most conservative estimates, one tree equals 8,500 pages of standard office paper; thus the savings of 1 trillion pages of paper by 25,000 organizations translates into a savings of approximately 117 million trees!

“We are proud to do our part,” says Nien-Ling Wacker, the company’s founder and CEO. “In all honesty, we started Laserfiche to make software to help organizations be more productive, and we’ve succeeded. To realize that we’ve also had such a positive environmental impact gives us a warm feeling.

Based in Long Beach, CA, Laserfiche creates simple and elegant document management solutions that help organizations run smarter. Electronic document management, or document imaging, is the practice of digitizing and indexing paper documents, then storing them along with electronic documents in a central repository. By digitizing paper archives, Laserfiche helps users find what they need in seconds, collaborate more effectively and complete daily tasks more efficiently, while multiple security features protect information from unauthorized access or release. With software from Laserfiche, you’ll not only achieve an organized, paperless office—you’ll support environmentally-friendly business processes, too.
